Earlier this month, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump accused the Venezuelan leader of being part of a drug-trafficking network, a narrative that is aimed at justifying direct actions against Venezuela. The following is the full statement from the Bolivia Chapter of the Antifascist International:
“The Antifascist International, Bolivia Chapter, addresses the peoples of Our America and the entire world to express its firm and united support for President Nicolas Maduro, the Bolivarian government and the revolutionary people of Venezuela, today threatened by the military forces of U.S. imperialism, which with arrogance and cynicism intends to carry out a new invasion under the pretense of a drug-trafficking network—an impertinent falsehood from those who want to destroy what has been built with honor, effort, commitment, dignity and glory.
The Venezuelan people, heirs of Simon Bolivar’s liberation campaign and the indomitable spirit of Guaicaipuro, have resisted for more than two decades the constant siege of a powerful enemy, capable of inventing any excuse to seize the natural resources of sovereign nations, which it regards as its backyard.
Venezuela, a homeland rich in oil, gas, biodiversity and culture, has been and continues to be a target of plunder planned by the U.S., which recognizes neither ethical limits nor respect for international law.
Today, under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the threat of military aggression intensifies, repeating a pattern of interventions that already destroyed countries such as Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan, plunging their peoples into misery and chaos.
To these same war policies are added internal operators such as Maria Corina Machado, who act as servile pawns of imperialism, handing over the homeland in exchange for crumbs and betraying the will of a dignified people.
We denounce before the world that Venezuela faces more than a thousand economic and financial sanctions arbitrarily imposed by the United States and its allies—measures designed to bring millions of men, women, children and the elderly to their knees through hunger and suffering.
However, the Venezuelan people have not yielded. On the contrary, they have shown the entire planet that resistance is possible, that dignity is not negotiable, and that the struggle for truth and justice can be sustained even under the most adverse conditions.
As the Antifascist International, Bolivia Chapter, we raise our voices to reproach and condemn the bellicose attitude of imperialism.
We reject all forms of foreign intervention and affirm clearly that Venezuela’s sovereignty is not for sale and will never be subdued by force of arms. Our solidarity with the revolutionary Venezuelan people is neither circumstantial nor rhetorical: it is militant, committed and active.
From the heart of the Americas, we call on free peoples to remain in constant peaceful mobilization, demanding the immediate end of threats against Venezuela.
We demand that our government, in line with the historic mandate of the peoples, raise the banners of protest against this U.S. arrogant and criminal attitude. Our commitment is with truth, justice and the historical memory of the peoples who fought for continental emancipation.
We do not forget that Bolivar dreamed of a united, independent and sovereign America, that Chavez revived that legacy for new generations. Today, Nicolas Maduro and the Venezuelan people courageously carry that torch, and we will not allow the darkness of imperial lies to extinguish it.
The Antifascist International, Bolivia Chapter, declares its unconditional support for the Venezuelan people and commits to remain vigilant, mobilized and in active solidarity in the face of any attempt at military intervention or coup d’etat sponsored from abroad.
Venezuela is not alone!
Bolivar lives, the struggle continues!
A great homeland, antifascist and sovereign!”
